Chula Vista FC will be holding tryouts via its online request form for its new U21 Team. In the quest to reduce the gap between our professional and youth ranks, Chula Vista FC will introduce a U21 team, after introducing the U23 team nine years ago. Chula Vista FC First Team (U23 + five older aged players) have gone on to advancing in the Open Cup, twice past the first round, defeating professional teams, winning the State Cup and twice being crowned the Best Team in Region IV of the United States, which includes the states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Cal North, Cal South, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and Arizona.
Chula Vista FC is the oldest youth club in the South Bay, and because they are always innovating, they believe they need to add a U21 team to help support the future of the First Team and complete a pathway from youth soccer into the adult side. Head Coach of the First Team J Hector Diaz said, "For us to continue to maintain the high level of the First Team, we need to close the pathway from our youth teams into the our top squad. Before, no other club had adult teams, and not only did we develop our own, but we were able to get the top players all over San Diego County to commit to Chula Vista. Now that our success has shone a light on adult soccer, we need to invest more resources in the adult players to stay above the rest."
The Club will enter a team in the San Diego County Soccer League, where it will compete in the First Division. This division is open to players of all ages, but Chula Vista believes that it will be able to stay competitive despite the Team being so young. The Team will be coached by First Team Assistant Coach Humberto "Beto" Rico. Coach Beto has a USSF C License.
Coach Beto said, "These players tend to be those that are very focused, coachable, and are eager to work hard. I don't just see myself as a U21 Head Coach, but I also consider myself a young adult mentor. I am privileged to support my player's transition from youth to adulthood as they work on reaching their next milestone in life."
Tryouts will be ongoing and by request via the online form. Spots are limited, and there is a small registration fee. The fee will cover players' registration costs, uniforms, league fees, referee fees, and any additional individual costs that relate to the program. There will be no coaching fees.
